Originally called Huntley's Grove, later named DeKalb in 1853. Named after Baron Johann de Kalb, a major general in the American Revolutionary War. Joseph Glidden, who invented barbed wire, called DeKalb home. He would ultimately be known as the “Father of Barbed Wire”.
DeKalb sits in its own county, DeKalb County. DeKalb County has been assigned a Radon Zone 1 by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). Zone 1 has the highest potential for indoor radon levels greater than 4 pCi/L. Since DeKalb, IL sits in Zone 1, it is highly recommended that you have your home tested for radon gas.
4-8 pCi/L is the equivalent of smoking about 8-16 cigarettes per day. This is enough reason alone to have your home tested!
We offer a very accurate 48hr test with a continuous radon monitor. At the end of the test, the results are ready and will be emailed within the hour. No need to wait for lab results!
